They accept gif, but it's not in the animation tab, it's in the art tab. 🙁

Oddly enough, I WAS posting this on the Art tab, and it still wouldn't accept it... But you're right; if you hover over "ART" when choosing to submit, it says .gif is a suitable format. Strange that it wasn't working for me...
